DP83640: ETHERCAT Compatibility?

Hi all!

We are using TMS320F28388D and TMDSCNCD28388D is my current development board.

TMDSCNCD28388D has DP83822I phy transceiver for both ethernet and ethercat. I am wondering if the DP83640 is also compatible for ethercat. What i read is that ethercat works with MII interface so technically it supposed to work with DP83640 as well since it support MII.

Can we confirm that if I can use DP83640 with TMS320F28388D for ethercat and ethernet instead of DP83822I?

If yes what should I consider and take care to use DP83640 in my design?

Hi Erhan,

I will be confirming this information with the team. In the meanwhile, please take a look at SNLA344 for more information regarding EtherCAT (including requirements) which has a PHY confirmed to be compliant, DP83826.

Thanks a lot for you help.

I took a look to the app note and DP83826 looks nice also. However, we were planing to use DP83822I because it is used in the dev board(TMDSCNCD28388D Daughter card | TI.com) for both ethernet and ethercat. Now I am a bit confused.

Could you please tell me briefly the main pros and cons between DP83822I and DP83826?
