DS16EV5110A: OUT pins terminated resistor

Part Number: DS16EV5110A

Hi team,

One of our customers has the following questions

As shown in the figure, the pull-up resistance of 8 signal lines output by DVI is 50 Ω according to the datasheet. As the project requires me to change these 8 resistors to 30 Ω, the output signal strength is high. Does this have any negative impact on the chip, such as service life, heating, etc?

Best Regards,

Amy Luo

  • Hi Amy,

These Resistors are used for TMDS open collector structure. Changing to 30 ohm, means we are going to dump about 40% more current in the output structure. Device has not been characterized and thus reliability/quality is unknown. Suggestion is to use 50-ohm impedance instead.

  • Hi Nasser,

Thank you very much for your advice.

The following is another question of the customer. Please give your suggestions

The customer software sets FEB = 1,BST[2:0] = 7. In practical application, the external cable is about 2m, which should be due to poor cable quality, Can the output signal be enhanced by other means?

    Best Regards,

    Amy

  • Hi Amy,

Poor cable means there is higher cable loss. To compensate for this higher loss or higher cable insertion loss, we should selected a higher gain setting using table 2 of the data sheet. The suggestion is to start with the lowest BST[2:0] settings and increase this setting until we can run video any bit error.
