DS90LV001: Could this DS90LV001 used for drive MIPI-DSI in video mode through cable to MIPI-DSI LCD

Hi,

Could it be possible to use this kind of LVDS driver to buffer our MPUs 2 lane + clock MIPI-DSI interface through 5-6m cable to external MIPI display?

I have understood that MIPI displays can also operate in video mode and with unidirectional interface. Maybe question is that do you have LVDS buffers which can drive ~600MHz signals through 5-6 meter USB-C cable and of course in MIPI-DSI interface jitter specification? Our LCD would be 1280x800 resolution with 16-24bit colors

Hi,

Unfortunately LVDS buffers would not respond well to the LP modes used in MIPI-DSI. I believe these modes would still be used in the video mode you mentioned (but correct me if I am wrong). You will want to look at SNx5DPHY440, this would be the closest solution to want you are looking for.

Hi,

Here is information from ST about MIPI-DSI. I understood that LCD panel could work in pure video mode when LCD doesn't have internal memory and MIPI is used direct streaming of video. Not 100% sure if I'm right. Do you have experts to say if this video mode could be used purely and no need for MIPI-DSI single-ended LP communication?

That SNx5DPHY440 also seems to be good solution. Can this drive 6m USB-C cable or some other high speed cable. Or maybe we need two 3m cable and buffer between those. I think USB-C could be the most commercialized solution for this. Even it's not used as in USB-C standard...

Hi,

As the LP modes are critical to the DSI standard I do not think the video mode mentioned would exclude LP signaling. Using a MIPI to eDP solution would definitely buy you more cable length and we have a wider variety of DP redriver solutions that may help achieve the desired cable length. You may want to consider a different cable or more specific cable. USB-C cable loss at high frequency can vary widely, many commercial cable at 6m length are mainly meant for charging.

Hi,

For USB-C, max distance is 1m per the spec. You may need an active cable if you need to drive a 6m cable.

The DSI86 is the solution for MIPI to eDP/DP, and you may need a DP redriver such as the DP141 or the DP142 depending on the loss of the 6m cable and the DSI86 driving capability.
