DS90UB934-Q1: Analog LauchPad to custom design

Part Number: DS90UB934-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP468EVM, USB2ANY, ALP, MSP-EXP430F5529LP, DS90UB960-Q1, DS90UB953-Q1

Hello

I want to run Analog LauchPad to my custom HW with DS90UB933 to DS90UB934 link.

I have an USB2ANY adapter built in a TMP468EVM.

Analog LaunchPad wants to update the firmware but does not recognize the adapter after letting it change FW.

Can you give me a FW that will work on this board with ALP?

I downloaded Python_Firmware_UpgraderGUI and can recover the FW with this program.

Also foud a file attached to another thread, USB2ANY_F5528.OUT but that was not accepted by ALP either.

Regards

Eric

  • Hi Eric,

The USB2ANY Firmware should be version 2.7.0.0. If you open ALP with a different FW version, then you will get that prompt. You just need to click the "OK" button and then click the "Update Firmware" button in the next window. I replicated it on my side:

    1) Open ALP, but get halted because firmware version is incorrect. Pop-up window appears:

    2) Click the "OK" button. Next window appears.

    3) Click the "Update Firmware" button and then wait until firmware is updated.

    4) Click the "Close" button and then ALP will reopen.

If you run into any issues, you may need to install USB2ANY Explorer software on your computer, before trying the steps again:

  • Hello Justin,

I did "update" the FW but as I wrote, after this the adapter is not recognized.

No USB device in Windows device manager after that also after unplug and reconnect.

If I press the button when plugging in Windows detects a device, Texas Instruments MSP430 USB HID Bootstrap Loader.

I can buy a MSP-EXP430F5529LP board if that is the easiest way to get a USB2ANY adapter that works with ALP?

I have USB2ANY explorer and that can recover the FW but not to the version that ALP wants.

The device is still bricked after that, does not show up in Windows.

    /Eric

  • Hi Eric,

In the setup that I did, I did not open USB2ANY Explorer. I connected my external USB2ANY device to the I2C bus of an EVM and then I opened the normal Analog LaunchPAD application. I was then prompted to update the firmware to version 2.7.0.0, which is shown in my previous post.

If you try to use the USB2ANY Explorer application, the firmware will be updated to a different version.

Can you open the Analog LaunchPAD application and then follow the steps to update firmware?

    Best,

  • Hi Justin

I did the FW upgrade with ALP, it bricks the device. I also later tested FW upgrade from USB2ANY explorer, same result.

This is the device information before changing FW (I have several of these so this is the original status)

    [Port1] : Texas Instruments, PID=0964

    [Device Information]
    Device Manufacturer: Texas Instruments
    Product Name: Texas Instruments, PID=0964
    Serial Number: -
    USB Version Supported: 2.00
USB Device Speed: USB 1.1 Full-speed
    Driver Description: USB-enhet
    Hardware ID: USB\VID_2047&PID_0301

    [Driver Information]
    Driver Manufacturer: (Standardsystemenheter)
    Driver Description: USB-enhet
    Driver Provider: Microsoft
    Driver Version: 10.0.19041.868
    Driver Date: 21-Jun-2006
    DeviceInstanceId USB\VID_2047&PID_0301\6228114720001E00
    Location Paths PCIROOT(0)#PCI(1400)#USBROOT(0)#USB(1)

The reported log file does not exist. If you could find a 2.7.0.0 FW that works with this adapter I would be happy.

If not we can close this. Can you confirm my question if MSP-EXP430F5529LP will work with ALP?

    Regards

  • Hi Eric,

Can you try following the directions posted in this separate E2E post, to see if that can allow you to update the firmware to version 2.7.0.0?

    https://e2e.ti.com/support/amplifiers-group/amplifiers/f/amplifiers-forum/1076361/usb2any-unable-to-update-the-firmware-on-my-usb2any?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=usb2any%20firmware#

But our ALP software is meant to be used to evaluate FPD-Link serializers and deserializers devices, such as the DS90UB953-Q1 and DS90UB960-Q1 devices. You would use a USB2ANY to connect your computer to the same I2C bus as the FPD-Link Ser/Des device. This is mentioned in the TI website page for ALP.

    https://www.ti.com/tool/ALP

The ALP software is not meant to interface with the MSP-EXP430F5529LP. You would need to visit the product page for the MSP-EXP430F5529LP, in order to see the hardware and software support offered by TI.

You could technically send I2C commands on the I2C bus, through the "Scripting" tab in ALP, so it may be possible to communicate to the MSP-EXP430F5529LP through the I2C bus. But you would have to be connected to a valid FPD-Link Ser/Des part over the I2C bus as well. But this is not a part of ALP's intended purpose and our team has not validated this application.

  • Hi

    Tried that now, same result.

We can close this now. I will try with the  MSP-EXP430F5529LP since it is cheap and available.

According to this pdf it should work.
