P82B96: Technical Query

Part Number: P82B96

Hi Team ,

We are using P8B296 part in our design .

Could you please review the attached schematic section and share your feedback on same .

Regards ,

Divya

  • Hi Divya,

    Here is my schematic review:

    • Pinout on schematic matches pinout on datasheet: Correct
    • Decoupling capacitors included and valued well: Correct, it looks like both caps are valued at 0.1 uF. Did you mean to make one of them 1 uF? There is no reason to make them both 0.1 uF because they are in the same order of magnitude.
    • Capacitors C41, and C53 are not required capacitors and in fact should not be added to the design. The bus is limited to 400 pF and you are adding 200 pF to the bus for no reason.
      • When you see these caps in the design this is just to show the bus capacitance these are not components you should add.
    • The rest of the schematic looks fine.

The hardest part with this device is tuning all the resistances so that your delay isn't so bad. This is especially important when you are using very long cables with higher capacitances. I wrote this E2E post  on how to tune this device. What you will have to do is change your SCL low time based on the delay in your system. If you have any questions let me know.

    Best,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris ,

Thanks for your valuable review .

    i. yes we changed one of them to 1uF

ii. Sure will make C41 and C53 DNI .

iii. we are using a cable length of 1m ,(Type-C cable)

iv. Sure we will tune the SCL low time according to system delay .

    Thanks ,

    Divya

  • Divya,

Thanks for the follow up. Can you click the "This Answer Resolved my Issue" button on Chris' post? This helps with our internal tracking of threads.
