Hi Experts,

Good day.

Cx is looking for an alternate part for SN65HVD233D. I was wondering if SN65HVD232DR has the identical basic CAN circuitry as the SN65HVD233D?

In their application they are grounding pins 5 and 8 and not using the unique features of the SN65HVD233D.

    Hi Archie,

    These devices are in the same family and share a common CAN driver and receiver circuit. With pin 5 (LBK) and pin 8 (Rs) tied to GND, The SN65HVD233 will behave the same as SN65HVD232. 

    For another supply option, the customer might also consider TCAN332. This is a newer 3.3V CAN transceiver that is pin-to-pin compatible with SN65HVD232 (with NC on pins 5 and 8). While it does have a slightly different CAN circuit, the design is newer and I would expect the system would only see improvements from the switch.
