DP83TC812S-Q1: Local Sleep of DP83TC812S

Part Number: DP83TC812S-Q1

I am attempting to put a DP83TC812S to sleep from the MAC without needing a external Link Partner connected. The following video describes putting the PHY to sleep by writing register 0x18C to a value of 2, but from there the LINK partner needs to ack the request. What happens if nothing is connected? I assume the PHY does not actually go to sleep. Assuming that's the case, is there a way around this? Is there a way to go to sleep without an external part ack'ing the sleep request. Maybe another register to write?

  • Hi Tim,

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

When there is no link partner connected, the device doesn't go to sleep. If the register 0x018C is not cleared, the device will initiate sleep as soon as link partner is connected and linked-up.

As a work-around to make the device go into sleep by itself, you can program reg<0x0444> = 0x000C.

Please let me know if you need more details.
