DP83822H: Solution to achieve functional isolation under 1500V voltage

Part Number: DP83822H

Hi expert,

My customer plans to use F28388D on a new high power PCS.

They want to use Ethernet to achieve parallel two or more PCS modules.

I want to know whether we can provide a solution which and support functional isolation and above 8mm creepage.

  • Hi Emma,

Can you share the block diagram here? I am not sure I understand the desired setup, could you please elaborate.

    Best,

  • Alon,

it is just like isolated CAN and any other isolated communication.

I just want to know where we can put the digital isolation in the ethernet hardware design.

  • Hi Emma,

This is not a common setup, what is it that is needed here?

The 1500V isolation is on analog magnetics side, not digital side. Is there a specific design you are trying to implement?

  • Alon,

customer use F28388D on a 1500V ACDC topology and use the Ethernet communication with other machine.

so they have to consider isolation level and creepage.

so my though is adding an ISO784x in this design. as shown in the evm above, could I put the ISO784X in the capative isolation block?

in this guide, it put real capacitor, but I want to ask, should ISO784X also Ok for this?

  • Hi Emma,

We have never tried such a setup, so we cannot comment further on whether or not it will work, however, please do let us know as we would love to know this information.

It is an interesting setup you suggest, we are just not sure how the system will react to buffers. Please try it and let us know.

  • Alon,

I am afriad you did not fully understand my question. as below picture shows:

    1. Coudl you kindly recommend a magnetics that can support 1500Vrms level isolation;(Option 1)
    2. If there is no 1500Vrms magnetics in the market,  could we add ISO77/78x to isolate the MAC interface and the low speed GPIOs/MDIO, etc. (Option 2)

  • Hi Emma,

The part you mentioned, ISO77/78x cannot be used in this system.

I looked through the datasheet, for the DP83822, and I see that the magnetics we recommend in the datasheet are already rated for 1500Vrms.

Is the recommended datasheet BOM fit your criteria?

    Best,

    Alon
