DS90UB953-Q1: How to estimate CLKout jitter from N/M configuration??

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1

Hello team,

My customer tried to configure register 0x06/0x07 for CLKOUT=27MHz.

They use 954 sync mode with 24MHz Ref CLK.

I searched E2E and found jitter amount is depend of whether N/M value is integer or fractional.

if so, Could you pls let me know how to estimate jitter even rough??

Thank you.

  • Hi Harry,

CLKOUT jitter will be dependent on a number of factors but the best you can do is ensure the N/M is an integer like you mentioned.  When using an N/M integer value you can expect a few hundred picoseconds of jitter on the output.  When N/M is fractional you can expect on the order of a few nanoseconds.

    Regards,

    Nick
