DP83TD510E-EVM: Trouble with USB-2-MDIO connection

Part Number: DP83TD510E-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB-2-MDIO

I'm trying to power DP83TD510 and connected DP83822 with USB from PC or USB charger. I installed J9 jumper (USB power), and left all other jumpers as default (EXT pins left disconnected).

LD1,LD2,LD4,D3 LEDs come on when powered (Not LD3). LED_0 on from DP83822. No response from USB-2-MDIO software (no new COM port shows up), no link LED on 100BASE-TX port when cable connected.

Installed ti_msp430driver_setup_1.0.1.1-windows on Windows 10 laptop (Thinkpad T480), but do not see any new device appearing in windows when eval board is powered.

  • Hi Robert,

Did you change the R24 resistor from 22 ohms to 0 ohms? Please refer to session 2.3 Quick setup in the updated EVM user guide in the document below. The most updated EVM user guide will be publish later this week.

  • No, I want to power from USB so I did not change anything other than putting a jumper on J9.

I followed section 3.1.3 "USB Power Supply Option", which does not state any resistor changes (even in new document version). I think Quick setup in 2.3 refers to using external 5-36v power, which I  am not using right now.

Note that section 2.3 conflicts with the description of Figure 2.6, which says to only install J9 if using USB power.

I can switch to an external power supply if necessary. I would think since the board does not come with an external power supply it would have been more useful to come configured for USB power by default.

  • Hi Robert,

Sorry for the confusion. We will work on this internally and update the user guide to TI.com. Meanwhile, please do change the R24 resistors to 0 ohms and remove the LED_0 jumper [J20] for the setup and see if you are able to work with the USB.
