TUSB8041: How TUSB8041 power control function work?

Part Number: TUSB8041

Hi Team,

TUSB8041 has PWRCTL1/2/3/4. I was wondering how it works. When customer want downstream power switch turn off, does customer need to configure register to change the output status? Or TUSB8041 can detect if device are connected and automatically turn on/off the switch?

Thanks!

Rayna

  • Hello Rayna,

Downstream port power of the hubs is controlled by the USB PORT POWER commands sent by the USB host.  The hub cannot generate these commands.

TI does not have a tool that can force the USB host to send the commands.  Typically all ports are powered on at enumeration and off during low power modes.
