DP83867ERGZ-S-EVM: DP83867ERGZ-S-EVM

Part Number: DP83867ERGZ-S-EVM

DP83867ERGZ-S-EVM is interfaced with switch's MAC using SIN+/- , SOUT+/- SGMII lines. The EVM RJ45 connector is connected to Router. When I am checking the logs on the MAC side,it shows no connection.

There is no activity LED on the developemnt board.

Does the board is configured as SGMII to copper at power up?

To work it in this mode,I am not using CLK signals. DOes the board require any register configurations through MDIO?

  • Hello,

The PHY should be configured automatically to SGMII. The activity LED on the board is actually for MDI activity. While register configurations arent needed, MDIO might be extremely helpful to see what is going on in the SGMII register (0x37[1:0]). Please note that this register is outside of normal register field, so extended register read (outlined in datasheet) is needed.

SGMII Clock is optional, not required.

What is the cables you are using to connect SGMII to MAC? How long are the cables? Are they length matched?

    Sincerely,

    Gerome

  • Hi Gerome! Thank you for your quick response!

We are using SMA coaxial cables. The length of the cables is approx 20cm. The cable length is not exactly matched.

We do not have any adapter to read the activity on the MDIO bus.

  • Hello,

20 cm is sufficient for SGMII, however the cables must be length matched between positive and negative pairs for this communication to work. I would suggest obtaining different cables that would meet this requirement. If there is further debugging required, it would be recommended to have SMI connectivity to further debug the PHY.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome
