DP83TC811R-Q1: converting from 100BASE-T to 100BASE-T1 or 1000BASET to 1000BASE-T1

Part Number: DP83TC811R-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83TC811EVM, DP83TC811

Which parts do you recommend for converting between 100BASE-T and 100BASE-T1 similar to the DP83TC811EVM board? The evaluation board uses DP83TC811 and DP83822 but there are also other alternatives. Maybee DP83TC813 and DP83826.

Do I need to configure the devices with MDIO or may it work with default settings and hardware strappings. Then I could skip a microcontroller.

Is there any device (-T and -T1)  that can handle both 100MB/s and 1000MB/s that allows to design a converter for both speeds?

  • Hi Bo,

A media converter can be created between any 2 PHYs connected back to back through MAC interface. For 100Base-T to 100Base-T1, the design would be as follows: PHY1 set to 100Base-T to RMII mode, PHY 2 set to RMII to 100BASE-T1 mode. The same idea works for 1000Base-T to 1000Base-T1, using RGMII as the MAC interface.

It is theoretically possible to make such a design work with default settings and hardware strappings, but it is strongly recommended to include a microcontroller to load optimized configurations and debug.

We currently do not offer any automotive PHYs that support multiple speeds unfortunately.

    Thanks,

    David
