TPS65988EVM: About the VDM version of SOP'

Hi TI,

I connect one end of the type-c cable plug to PortA, and the other end plug to the device, then read the 0x49 register to get the SOP' data, the VDM version of the data is 1.0.
Some connected devices can read SOP' data with VDM version 2.0 by using the "VDMs" command, but some devices cannot.

What can I do so that the "VDMS" command works when any device is connected?
Or is it possible to read SOP' (VDM version 2.0) from the beginning without using the "VDMs" command?

Wilson,

On connection to a device, the TPS65988 will always send VDM request to SOP'. You do not need the VDMs command for this to update on connection

Our goal: to read the SVDM2.0 version of SOP'.
When connecting the device and then reading the SOP' data, the SVDM version is 1.0. The VDMs command must be used to get the SVDM version 2.0.
But for some devices, the VDMs command has no effect and can only read the SVDM1.0 version of SOP'.

What can I do to ensure that the SVDM 2.0 version of the SOP' is read?

I may be missing something here but if you want to read SVDM version 2.0 of SOP' then you need a cable that supports that. Are you saying the cable does support SVDM 2.0 but the PD is sending the SVDM 1.0 to SOP'?

We can use "VDMs" command to make PD send SVDM2.0 to SOP'. But not all connected devices can be successful, some connected devices will cause "VDMs" command to fail. Is there any way to force "VDMs" command to work?

If there is another way, please let me know too, I will be very grateful.

Wilson,

I think all you need to do is change the PD3.0 Configuration Register (0x42) Fields SOPPrimeRevision (Bits 3:2) and SOPRevision (Bits 1:0) to Revision 2.0

If this does not solve the problem please share the PJT and what Application Customization Tool version you are using.

Thanks. for the PJT. I have a few recommendations to look at this:

1) What TPS65988 are you using? (DH, DK, etc.) I wish to replicate this on my end

2) Can you provide PD logs of the issue?

Wilson,

The PJT looks correct. The only reason the SVDM version would go from 2.0 to 1.0 is if the other device or cable reported 1.0. The PJT is fine, The device or cable are the issue at this point.
