SN65HVD251: Differences of SN65HVD256DR and SN65HVD251D

Part Number: SN65HVD251
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD256

Hello Team,

A customer would like to know what the exact difference between SN65HVD256DR and SN65HVD251D. They want to evaluate whether they can swap them out against each other on the same PCB, since they have stock of one but not the other.

I found differences in the Bus Fault Protection and the Bus Pin ESD Protection voltages.

Thank you,

Franz

  • Franz,

The SN65HVD256 is a functional upgrade from the SN65HVD251 with Turbo CAN and dominant time-out (DTO). The DTO is an important consideration when it comes to timing if working with very slow communication speeds.

There are also other specification improvements for the SN65HVD256 as you noted, like improved bus fault protection, ESD, and faster timing/switching characteristics.

    Best,

    Danny
