DP83826E: IC Broken under 6kV ESD on RJ45 shield

Part Number: DP83826E

Hi team

Customer reflects that DP83826E will damage when they apply a 6kV ESD on RJ45 shield, the test is followed IEC 61000-4-2 Contact. It's below 8kV in the datasheet, do you have any insights about this?

  • Hi Shaofeng,

Looking at the schematic, I want to highlight a few things.

    1. Can you please check if Rbias is connected appropriately? I see no resistor on this pin.
    2. Pin1 is connected to ground using a 6.49k. This should be directly shorted to ground if BASIC mode is intended to be used.
    3. Please depopulate 1uF on Pin 2.
    4. Please depopulate resistor connecting center tap to 3.3V. Please refer to section 10.2.1 in the datasheet.
    5. The RJ45 used seems to have an integrated magnetics already. This makes 2 magnetics in series. Please depopulate one magnetic out of the two.

Can you please make necessary changes and re-run the tests?
