DP83843: PHY for 100base-FX (fiber)

Hi all, in an old forum there was the suggestion to don't consider the DP83843 for fiber applications, because of its "old" status. Suggesting instead the TLK10x family (which also has smaller packages).

But, 9 years later, TLK phy's are now marked as "not recommended for new design), and the 83843 is still there. The DP83622 is probably newer, but nowadays it's not available (while there are some 843 in the inventory).

Which is your opinion? Being my project a "one-batch" production (100 pcs are OK for me), should I consider the DP83843 or is better to move to a Marvell PHY (the other viable option)?.

Hi Alberto,

For 100Base-FX applications, we recommend using the DP83822IF or DP83822HF. Please have a look at the datasheet and let me know if that will fit your need.

yes, the '822xF will fit for sure, it would be my 1st choice. But unfortunately it's not available... and I need something now, i'm designing the board and I have to produce the next month.

Hi Alberto,

The DP83843 is a legacy device which has been replaced by the DP83822, so we strongly recommend using the 822 instead. The DP83843 does support 100Base-FX, but we will be able to offer better support on the DP83822. Please contact your local FAE or sales person for info about supply.
