TCA6424: Multiple slave addresses?

Part Number: TCA6424

What is the purpose of the ADDR bit in the slave address, in other words, why are there multiple slave addresses provided?  Does the ADDR bit mean that the slave responds to either slave address? I  am only familiar with each I2C device having a single slave address.

  • Hi Phil,

This allows you to have multiple TCA6424 devices in parallel on the I2C bus while each still having a unique address. Since this device has one addr pin, you may only have two TCA6424's in parallel on the same I2C bus. If you need more than that an I2C switch/mux is required.
