AM26LV32E: AM26LV32EIPWR

Part Number: AM26LV32E

Hello,

Could you reconfirm that for the device AM26LV32EIPWR, at the 150 C Tj max, is the device going operate with full functionality?

Regards

Ranga

  • In theory, yes.

But the maximum ambient temperature is 85 °C. How are you going to get the junction temperature 65 °C higher without violation some other absolute maximum rating?

  • HI Ranga,

Please see note (1) under the absolute max table:

    """

    (1) Stresses beyond those listed under Absolute Maximum Ratings may cause permanent damage to the device. These are stress ratings only, which do not imply functional operation of the device at these or any other conditions beyond those indicated under Recommended Operating Conditions. Exposure to absolute-maximum-rated conditions for extended periods may affect device reliability.

    """

So we don't guarantee that the device will be functional at a junction temperature of 150C - that is just the max temperature that shouldn't damage the device itself (but could reduce lifetime and reliability of part if held at maximum ratings for extended periods of time leading to premature failures) . It may still be operational but it will most likely be out of spec as usually that high of a junction temperature indicates that other parameters are not following recommended datasheet operation conditions.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

  • Hello Parker Dodson,

Thank You for your response, then could you please advise either recommended maximum power or Recommended Junction Temperatures of this device. As our Board's Ambient Temperature itself is 85C hence we are failing Thermal analysis despite power consumption is low.

    Regards

    Ranga

  • Hi Ranga,

We don't specify a max rec. operating junction temperature - the closest we spec is the ambient of 85C - assuming every other recommendation is followed the device should work fine. There are edge cases that could possibly cause higher than expected junction temperatures either due to high power consumption of part of hotter than expected operating environment - if the other recs are followed though there shouldn't be a ton of risk unless the junction temperature is above 150C.  .

If operating at 85C and using the PWR version of the device that has a ambient to junction thermal impedance of 109C/W that allows a max power dissipation of 596.33mW from the unit itself to keep within operational temperature range. With that being said - the board and layout conditions are going to impact the thermal impedance value and the addition of heatsinks can further impact this value - which means the max recommended power is going to be variable depending on system conditions. I have added an app note that covers how to read and understand thermal parameters with respect to the system: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/spra953c/spra953c.pdf?ts=1666645430615&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F
