TCAN4550-Q1: 8M support

Genius 15750 points
Part Number: TCAN4550-Q1

Hello,

 I have a question for TCAN4550-Q1.

The datasheet says that this device can support up to 8Mbps on the top page.
But there is a note that I want to confirm.

On the below t_BIT(xxx)8M parameters, there is a note (5).

And the below is the note (5).

I wnat to confirm this intention, "not 100% tested".
Isn't 8Mbps operation guaranteed?

Regards,
Oba

  • Hi Oba,

The current version of the CAN FD standard only specifies operation up to 5Mbps. Therefore, the existing conformance tests only validate speeds us to this rate. The reports we receive from third party test houses are what allow us to claim compliance at 5Mbps operation, however our own testing and characterization have allowed us to also claim 8Mbps capability.

Let me know if this is clear and if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott

  • Hello Eric,

So we can guarantee these MIN/MAX values for 8Mbps on the table and  this device can officially support 8Mbps commnucation.
But it didn't pass CAN compliance test just because CAN doesn't specify 8Mbps operation.

    Correct?

  •  Hi Oba,

Yes, that's correct. The "not 100% tested" is because the current standard tests don't go this far. The datasheet values themselves are tested by TI and are guaranteed.
