TLIN1024A-Q1: Differences in Datasheet Recommended Schematics/Layout

Hi team,

Our customer is looking into the TLIN1024/TCAN1046 datasheet and it seems there are some difference in recommended schematics/layout.

For example in TLIN1024 datasheet there is no pullup resistor in EN and RXD pin in Figure 30 but they are on the layout example in Figure 33.

Which design should customer use as reference?

    To be clear, TLIN1024A-Q1 and TCAN1046A-Q1 (TCAN1046-Q1) have different RXD structures.

    For the TLIN1024A-Q1 and many of the other LIN transceivers, RXD is an open-drain output. This would require an external pull-up resistor on the RXD line, which is shown in both of the figures you included. It is also okay to use an integrated pull-up resistor in a microcontroller if available.

    EN is the enable input to the device. An external pull-up resistor can help ensure that the device remains active even when the MCU is not driving the pin high (or you can just connect EN high to have it permanently enabled). It is not required, but is dependent on the system design requirements.

    For the TCAN1046A-Q1, RXD outputs are push-pull, so you do not need an external pull-up resistor.

    Understood the RXD/EN pin structure.

    My point is customer is confused by the different design(EN, RXD, TXD) between Typical Application schematic and Layout Example in datasheet. Which one should customer use to design the schematic as reference?

    Both of these are valid applications. The actual requirements depend on the microcontroller that the customer is using. The only characteristic that is always required is that the RXD line needs an external pull-up. The others might be needed based on the system requirements.
