SN65HVD230: CAN driver overshoot/blips

Part Number: SN65HVD230

Hi there,

I'm using the SN65HVD230 (one side isolated, other side nonisolated) and have noticed these "blips" that appear near the end of CAN frames. I was wondering if TI could shed any light on why they happen to appear? Is this intentional or a problem? Is this a common mode shift due to differing levels on the CAN transceivers?

  • Hi Oscar,

This appears to be the result of various other 5V supplied CAN transceivers driving either a ACK bit in response to the SN65HVD230's driven frame or when a 5V transceiver attempts to drive the bus during arbitration before losing priority to the 3.3V driven ID. All in all, this looks to be a good example of a mixed 3.3V and 5V network working as desired with both driver types able to coexist, hand-off, and arbitrate on the same bus.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott
