THVD1450: Do you have any circuit idea to turn on/off a external termination resistor?

Part Number: THVD1450
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THVD1424

Hello guys,

One of my customers uses THVD1450 with 120 ohm external termination resistor for current products.
For their next products, they need to turn on/off the external termination resistor by a MCU to meet their end customer request.
They know that THVD1424 has the resistor on/off function.
But they has a lot of THVD1450 and they want to use THVD1450 for the next products too.

So they have the following question. Could you please give me your answer?

Q.  Do you have any circuit idea to turn on/off (connected/disconnected by MCU) the external termination resistor?

Your reply would be much appreciated.

Best regards,
Kazuya

  • Hi Kazuya-san,

The below reference design goes over two methods of using selectable termination in CAN designs. The concept and execution will be identical in an RS-485 implementation. Let me know if this is what is needed for the current design consideration or if there is any functionality missing.
