TRS3232E-Q1: for different supply voltage connection

Part Number: TRS3232E-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TRS3232

Hello team,

For TRS3232E-Q1, can you confirm if the following use case is okay?

The datasheet specifies Receiver input voltage up to 25V, so it’s expected that the different supply(3.3V and 5V) will be not any issue. Is it correct?

Thanks,

Sam Lee

  • Hi Sam,

That is fine - both devices - even at different supplies - will typically output +/-5.4V due to the charge pump (each TRS3232  will require different values for C1,C2,C3, and C4 to get to the typical output at different supplies) so they will be communicating at the same voltage level.

Also just as a note all RS-232 devices must be able to handle an input of up to +/-15V on the bus pins (RS-232 standard) - this device has an extended range of +/-25V.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Best,

    Parker Dodson
