TCAN1042HV-Q1: SAE J2284-4, ISO 11898-2 and SAE J1939-17

Part Number: TCAN1042HV-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1051

CAN team,

I have an automotive customer asking if TCAN1051HDRQ1 and TCAN1042HVDRQ1 meet the following standards.  Can you let me know please?

SAE J2284-4, ISO 11898-2 and SAE J1939-17.

For reference, I previously asked about J1939-22 for this customer here.

Darren

  • Hi Darren,

All of our 5V CAN transceivers conform to the ISO 11898-2 CAN physical layer standard. This includes the all TCAN1042 and TCAN1051 devices, as well as the newer TCAN1044A and TCAN1057A equivalents. These newer devices are drop-in replacements for the older devices and have increased supply capability. We recommend all new designs shift to this family of CAN transceivers.

The SAE standards here look to be primarily focused on system level capability and would not be uniquely dependant on the transceiver. I am not directly familiar with these standards, but from the description the only transceiver-specific requirement appears to be capability of 2Mbps CAN FD support, which is also specified in the ISO standard for CAN FD.

Let me know if this is unclear and if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott
