DP83TC814R-Q1: About DP83TC814x-Q1 100BASE-T1 Automotive Ethernet PHY

Part Number: DP83TC814R-Q1

Hi,

I am Piyush Nahar, Hardware Design Engineer from Minda Instruments Ltd, Pune(India).

I have query about the MDC & MDIO pin mapping/interfacing with the host controller- do we need to connect these two pins to GPIO pins or dedicated pins of the host controller .

Requirement is- Device shall provide 100Base-T1 Ethernet according to the IEEE standard 802.3bw

Please clarify, awaiting quick response.

Thanks

  • Hi Nahar,

Yes, you are correct. As long as the GPIO pins that support MDC clock and MDIO (open drain functionality) communication it should be fine. MDC and MDIO communication are mainly used for reading the registers in the PHY.

One more quick comment, Make sure to have a pull up resistor on the MDIO line.
