SN65HVD230: Interface forum

Part Number: SN65HVD230

Hi,  we are using SN65HVD230 for CAN communication. this CAN cable carry +24V which is used to power On other front end device. When GND wire breaks, other device lose it's supply but also this is causing CAN communication failing. when GND re-establish , still problem continue  and only way to  establish CAN communication is to power cycle main board , where CAN IC is used. How can we re-establish CAN communication without power cycle the main board?

  • Hi Atul,

Can you please capture scope shots of the TXD pin and the CAN bus pins (CANH, CANL) so we can see if the transceiver has stopped transmitting the incoming signal from the MCU or if the MCU has stopped attempting to send data on the TXD line. This transceiver works on the electrical level only, which means the R and D pins are always correspond to the bus state. If TXD is changing but CANH/CANL is not, then it's the transceiver's issue.

Most likely, TXD is not receiving any data after GND re-established. It may be due the error on the CAN controller side (MCU). If this is the case, you can read the associated interrupt registers from the MCU to identify the source of the issue that likely caused a bus-off condition and transmission to cease.
