PCF8575: Pin Output Power Consumption

Part Number: PCF8575

For PCF8575, how to estimate the power consumption of the pins, which are used as output GPIO?

Is Ioh the parameter to use?

In the data sheet, Ioh appears in several places with different value:

  • 6.1: -4mA  +-100mA (so big?)
  • 6.3: -1mA
  • 6.5: -30 ~ -300 uA.

I wonder which one to use.

  • The absolute maximum ratings tell you at which current the device might get damaged.
The recommended operating conditions tell you the maximum current for which the electrical characteristics are guaranteed.
The IOH entry in the electrical characteristics tells you the drive strength of the weak pull-up.

ICC is defined as the current that flows into VCC and out of GND. The current that flows into or out of an I/O pin depends on the load.
