DP83848I: 10Base-T compliance test packet generating

There was another E2E post regarding the 848 and compliance testing, I believe it may be of use to you, please find it linked below.

The SNLA239 app note is an excellent reference but unfortunately does not apply to the 848, we are currently working on a document to address this. Again, please read through the linked E2E post and let me know if this helps resolve your issue.

My apologies, the link I sent is an internal forum. I'll summarize here instead.

For 100Base-T, the only necessary script for the DP83848 is:

Set Reg 0x00 = 2100 // Disables Auto-neg and forces PHY into 100 Mbps

For 10Base-T, the only necessary script for the DP83848 is:

Set Reg0x00 = 0100 //Disables Auto-neg and forces PHY into 10 Mbps

Please try this and see if this helps.

10Base-t Ethernet compliance test requires DUT to generate a "Random Packet", right?

The test method for 10Base-t Ethernet compliance I understood is as follows.

DP83848I can't generate Random packet it self.

So set DP83848I's Reg to Disables Auto-neg and forces PHY into 10 Mbps, forced MDI and phy loopback.

(The link pulse test has a different setting, but I already passed it, so I'll skip the explanation.)

After setting, link parter should be trasnmit "Random Packet" to DP83848I then DP83848I will send random packets received from the link partner to the oscilloscope.

But my problem is I don't know how to generate Random Packet.

I don't have gernerator equipment.

also I don't know how to use packet generator SW.

Please let me know if there is an EVB that can act as a link partner by sending Random packet used for 10Base-t Ethernet compliance.

Hi Daeson,

I double checked and you are correct. I believe the 848 needs to be set up in a Repeater application for 10Base-T Compliance testing. My teammate has experience with this. Please allow me to consult with him, I will respond again Monday Dec 4th.
