TUSB4041I: Query whether we can use TUSB4041I without OTP & External Memory (Non-Programmed

Part Number: TUSB4041I
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2000C
Hi TI Team,
We are using a USB HUB Device "TUSB4041IPAPQ" in our Design. Where we are planning to use the Device without any external Programming (Non-Programmable). As per the datasheet we are seeing the device need to be programmed as a Master or Slave.
Can you please suggest, Whether we can use this device as per our above requirement & how we can configure the device for using all 4 Down stream USB's without Programming at the same time when we receive the upstream data.
Please find the attached Pictures of the Design for your reference & suggest ASAP. Also request to verify the design & suggest for any changes.
  • Hi,

No EEPROM or SMBUS programming is needed for the TUSB4041I. The TUSB4041I can be pin configured only for normal operation. EEPROM or SMBUS is only needed if more in-depth, specialized configuration is required. Please note that if SMBUSz is pulled low, the TUSB4041I will not work as a hub until a SMBUS host sets the cfg-active bit. If you are not using SMBUS, do not set the SMBUSz pin low.

The TPS2000C EN is active low, so you want to set the TUSB4041I PWRCTL_POL low as well to set the PWRCLT polarity to be low.

Can you share the schematic in .pdf format?

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi David, Thanks for the response.

Please find the attached Schematic pdf for your review & confirm if we can use this for our Application. We have updated the SMBUSz Pin as NC & also changed the USB Power Switch Device with Active High Enable. Can you please verify & suggest if any changes needed in the Design.

  • Hi,

Where does +5V_FIL comes from? Can you show the upstream and downstream connection?

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi David,

+5V_FIL is taken from the Board Power Supply.

Sorry as the application is confidential, The Upstream Interface is taken from an internal Board using Board-Board Stacked Connector & While coming to the Down stream connectivity. Two Interfaces are going to a USB Connector & remaining two Interfaces are going to an other Interface IC as a Input.

Also We have received Eval Kit of this Module & tested the Board using PC for Upstream & Downstream to other Internal Boards & the Application is working Fine as a Plug & Play Connectivity

  • Hi,

Ok, I want to make sure the  +5V_FIL was not taken from the upstream VBUS. Otherwise the schematic looks ok.

    Thanks

    David
