TUSB216: Signal quality simulation using S-parameters of TUSB216@HyperLynx

Part Number: TUSB216

I have verified the effect of improving the USB differential signal waveform quality by simulation using the S-parameters of the TUSB216.
TUSB216 was placed at the relevant locations, but there is no improvement in the signal waveform. (It is getting worse)
The signal waveform of the transmit from the USB host was simulated by LineSim of HyperLynx.

[Question]
・Is there anything wrong?(Schematics, etc.)
・What DC Boost level setting is the S-parameter of TUSB216, when this model was measured by "N5230A"?

  • This s-param model behaves as expected, this model is for Low Speed and Full Speed USB operation.  The model shows the expected loss through the device when present on the DP/DM signals (Not boosting in LS or FS mode).

Is this for a cable or PCB application, what is the expected loss (Or Cable/PCB trace length) pre and post redriver?

  • I were currently running the simulation at High Speed (480Mpbs) and could not see any improvement by the S-parameters of the TUSB216.

The attached simulation schematic assumes the following.
・4 boards are across from the USB PHY to the USB port (via 3 connectors)
・The length of each wiring on the board is 10 cm.
・The cable length from the USB port to the device side is 1m

  • In the schematic, it appears they have a 5m cable, if this is the case the eye after the cable may be able to pass a far-end eye mask, a 1m cable would be able to pass the near-end eye with the TUSB216.  The PCB trace of the four boards should not be an issue with the TUSB216 as well.  We have a Spectre model for the TUSB216, but no IBIS or High-Speed S-parameter model available.
