DS90UB953A-Q1: Check whether a scenario of 1920 x 1080@120fps and 12bits can be supported

Part Number: DS90UB953A-Q1

hi Expert,

We need to cooperate with 1080p@120fps camera sensor and transmit CSI-2 signal through ti Serializer chip. The current problems are as follows:

1, DS90UB953A-Q1 The chip Up to 4 data lanes at 832 Mbps per each lane, the total bandwidth is 4*832=3328Mbps

2. The sensor data to be transmitted is 1920*1080*120*12 =2986Mbps

3. DS90UB953A-Q1 only supports 2.3M@60fps.

May I ask whether this series of ser and deser chips can support 1920*1080@120fps, 12bits scenes

  • Hello,

Thank you for reaching out. The 2.3MP 60fps reference in the data sheet is only an example of resolutions that the DS90UB953 is able to support and is not the only resolution that can be supported. As long as the total video bandwidth is within 832 Mbps per lane, the resolution can be supported. You can calculate the bandwidth using the equation below:

Hactive x Vactive x FPS x Bits per pixel x blanking and overhead (assume 15% if unknown)

For your case this would be: 1920 x 1080 x 120 x 12 x 1.15 = 3434 Mbps, which is greater than the device's 3328 Mbps total bandwidth and not supported. However, if the overhead associated with your sensor is 10% or less then the bandwidth would be supported. Otherwise you will need to either decrease the fps or use a higher bandwidth serializer.

  • Is there a serializer with greater bandwidth than DS90UB953? I can't find it on ti's website?

  • Hello,

Do you have a TI sales or field representative? If so you can reach out to them to discuss our higher bandwidth devices such as the DS90UB971.
