TCA8418: TCA8418RTWR Thermal pad - is it no-connect, or can I connect to GND ?

Part Number: TCA8418

The data sheet for TCA8418RTWR shows the "thermal pad" under the part but there is no mention if this pad must be a no-connect, or if it can be grounded.  The examples do not show the connection at all.

The WQFN24 footprint from TI's website links to "Ultra Librarian" and it shows "EPAD" as pin 25 with 9 vias in the thermal area.

 Can "EPAD" be grounded?

  • Hey Dave,

Both configuration will work. The thermal pad connection can be left floating or tied to GND (not required). The pad is there to aid in thermal coupling to the PCB.

Please see this FAQ for additional info.
