TCAN1463-Q1: EMC design and wake pin

Part Number: TCAN1463-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ESD2CAN24-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team

Can you please feedback ASAP on below 2 questions so that I will have deep dive meeting with customer next Monday. thanks!

1. Can you please give a detailed guideline on CAN network EMC design, including CMC, split network and their parameter selection;

2. TCAN1463 is bi-directional edge triggered in wake ping. But customer don't like high to low transition edge triggered. Any workaround to solve it? or is there single direction edge trigger CAN transceiver  solution?

thanks!

  • Hi Terry,

    1. We recommend to place CMC between the transceiver pins and the terminations, usually 51 or 100 uH will be enough. The typical value of split capacitance is 4.7nF. And there are optional bus filter capacitors, typically 100nF, and optional TVS diode (we have ESD2CAN24-Q1) can be placed near the connector.

    2. All our CAN transceivers with WAKE pin are bi-directional edge triggered. Either rising or falling edge will work so low to high transition can also be used. See 8.4.1.5.2 in datasheet.

    Regards,

    Sean
