TUSB320: HOW TO SET WITH TUSB320 TO LIMIT CURRENT

Part Number: TUSB320

Tool/software:

  1. What is the max output current of USB TYPEA?
  2. How to set the output current of USB TYPEA?
  3. Is there anyway to set the output current of USB TYPEA  below 100mA?
  • Hi,

Please see section 7.3.2 Type-C Current Mode in TUSB320 datasheet.

When a valid cable detection and attach have been completed, the DFP has the option to advertise the level of Type-C current an UFP can sink. The default current advertisement for the TUSB320 device is 500 mA (for USB 2.0) or 900 mA (for USB 3.1).

You can't set the output current of USB Type-A below 100mA as it will be a violation of the USB spec.

    Thanks

    David

  • Thanks.

If the current for the TUSB320 can't set below 100mA, is there anyway to set the current around 100mA but not up to 500mA?

Is there anyway to set the output current of USB TYPEA to be 100mA or 200mA or 300mA?

From the USB2.0 protocol specification, when the USB device is a low power port, the current is 100mA.

Do you have any suggestion for the current of TUSB320 not up to 500mA?

  • Hi,

A USB 2.0 host has to provide 500mA, you can not have a host that is only providing 100mA, otherwise it will not able to support any high power device. But a low power device that is drawing 100mA does not mean the host has to only provide 100mA. The USB2.0 host can provide up to 500mA current while a low power device only consumes 100mA current.

    Thanks

    David
