Does the RXD pin of TCAN1043G-Q1 chip need to be connected with an external pull-up resistor? Does the RXD pin of the TLIN1021A-Q1 chip need an external pull-up resistor?

Hi Jie,

The RXD on TCAN1043G-Q1 does not need external pull-up, the structure is push-pull. RXD on TLIN1021A-Q1 is open-drain so external pull-up is needed if the microcontroller's pin does not have an integrated pull-up.

Why is CAN's RXD designed for push-pull output and LIN's RXD designed for open-drain output?

Hi Jie,

The open-drain output allows our LIN transceivers to be used with 3.3-V and 5-V controllers, so there is no VIO pin needed like CAN transceivers. You would need to use the V-variant device on CAN for 3.3V level shifting.

And CAN has much higher data rate than LIN, push-pull allows for higher data rates due to having an output transistor.
