SN65HVD63: SN65HVD63 Clock Duty Cycle

Part Number: SN65HVD63

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

The part SN65HVD63RGTR is used in design. The clock 8.704 MHz is provided to this device from MCU. Crystal is not used here.

Could you please suggest what duty cycle (Min and Max) of clock (8.704 MHz) is needed for this device for operation. This parameter is not mentioned in the device datasheet.

Best regards

  • Hi Ishwar,

The recommended duty cycle is just 50%. There is no stated Min or Max. The main requirement is that the clock needs to satisfy the Min/Max Voltages of V_IH and V_IL:

  • Hi Ethan,

We have used external clock source for 8.704 MHz clock. Crystal is not used here. The Duty cycle is not exactly 50% of external clock. So I need the Min and Max duty cycle supported by this device. Normally it is between 45% to 55%

    Best regards

  • Hi Ishwar,

Normally an MCU external clock is a regular clock signal which has a duty cycle of 50% by default. And in the case of a crystal or oscillator circuit, the frequency will vary by -30 to 30ppm. That is the only variance that we specify, and the min/max value for the duty cycle of a clock signal is not a normal use case. Hence the duty cycle is something we do not provide.

If you have an unusual external clock, I would recommend switching to a crystal that can provide that minimum requirement of +/- 30ppm frequency accuracy.

    Regards,

    Ethan
