TPD8S300: Looking for a USB Type C Connector Protection

Part Number: TPD8S300
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25751

Tool/software:

Hello TI team,

We are looking for a USB type C protection IC taht can work as OVP and mositure detection on several Type C connectors we have used in our product.

Could you pls provide some info for the mentioned part ?

1. DOes the IC provide OVP and mositure protection on CC, SBU and DP/DM?

2. Is it ok to use with TI PD controller TPS65988D?

3. Is the mositure sensing mechanism is resistive or capacitive in nature?

  • Hi Garima,

    Thank you for reaching out!

1- The TPD8S300 features 4-channels of Short-to-VBUS overvoltage protection on CC1, CC2, SBU1, and SBU2. See the datasheet for more details.

2-  The TPS65988D does not support liquid detection. Please see our new device, the TPS25751, that does support liquid detection. See block diagram below:

3- The moisture/liquid detection mechanism highlighted in the TPS25751 is resistive in nature.

Please let me know if you have additional questions/concerns.

  • Hi,

Since we are only updating the previous design based on TPS65988D, we look for a standalone moisture detection IC for type C.

Previously we used NXP NX20P0477UKZ with TI PD TPS65988D for CC line protection and moisture detection but there were issues in reading register values during fault condition.

Kindly suggest how to incorporate the moisture proof type C connector feature with TI TPS65988D?

  • Hi Garima,

Unfortunately, we do not have a stand-alone port protector that integrates a corrosion prevention algorithm from moisture at this time.

The TPD8S300 does have short-to-VBUS protection on the CC lines. See below for more details on the fault pin operation.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

    Best Regards,

    Aya Khedr
