Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVS2701
Tool/software:
Hello,
I have a customer wondering about the TVS2700 and they typically use zener diodes as protection for an externally connected device. Is this device considered "bidirectional" similar to a traditional zener?
Based on the data sheet TVS2700 it seems likely it is bi-directional like a Zener would be, due to the substrate diode of the NMOS pass device, if the device is biased less that -0.5V, the substrate diode of the NMOS will bias. It would seem the current will not be controlled, but it will act like a clamp and it's probably a pretty big diode as it scales with the MOSFET.
Can you comment if this is the correct thinking and on how the device responds to negative strikes?
Thanks,
Zach
