Hi Team,

We are developing APL isolators that are upstream termination is APL field switches and downstream termination is APL field devices. Would like to use DP83TD510E, there are a few questions to ask, please help to comments, thanks.

Is the PHY of the two APLs able to be connected directly?
Can we use a digital isolator between the PHYs?
If the APL switch support PoDL, and upstream side of the isolator we designed do not need to draw power from the switch, could these two ports be connected directly?
Could APL isolators power downstream devices at a fixed voltage and current, how to realize this usage? If SCCP is not supported, will communication be affected?

Hi Shengyue,

I have some follow-up questions to clarify:

1) Do you mean to connect the PHYs directly without AC or DC isolation?

2) Can you please share an example of the type of digital isolator you are referring to?

3) Could you please share a schematic or block diagram to help me understand the proposed connection?

4) SCCP is mainly used for functional safety. It does not have effect on communication. If customer plans on having fixed current and voltage, SCCP is not required

The block diagram of application is below, digital isolators like ISO77xx, if not available, please help to suggest isolator type and usage.
