DS100BR410: Maximum Operating Junction Temperature

Part Number: DS100BR410
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EQ50F100, DS38EP100, DS25CP102Q-Q1, DS42BR400, , DS100BR210, DS100DF410

Tool/software:

Hi,

In the response to DS100BR410: Thermal Characteristics - Interface forum - Interface - TI E2E support forums, a link is provided to a similar query related to other parts (EQ50F100, DS38EP100, DS42BR400, DS25CP102Q-Q1): SN65LVCP1414: Thermal Characteristics - Interface forum - Interface - TI E2E support forums. In that response, DS100BR410 is, however, not explicitly mentioned.

Can you provide some clarification/confirmation of the maximum operating junction temperature, or the sustained junction temperature where the part can be operated without any degradation to performance or long term reliability, for DS100BR410.

Thank you very much.

  • Hi Matt,

I don't have data on the max junction temperature for this device. However, given that the max junction temperature of similar devices is 100C, I expect the max junction temperature of DS100BR410 to also be around 100C.

    Best,

    Lucas

  • Hi Lucas,

Thank you very much for the response. That was my initial thought as well, but we would need to get something more concrete to justify our design choices. Would this be possible at all?

    Kind Regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

DS100BR410 is a legacy device and we unfortunately do not have the max junction temperature characterized. However, we do have other thermal parameters characterized.

    • Theta JA-High K: 27.3
    • Theta JC, top: 11.2
    • Theta JB: 9.9
    • Psi JT: 0.1
    • Psi JB: 9.9
    • Theta JC, bottom: 2.0

DS100BR210 is a 2-channel redriver which is similar to DS100BR410. We have the following values characterized, including junction temperature. Note that DS100BR410 has twice as many channels.

    • Tj max: 100C
    • Theta JA-High K: 42.6
    • Theta JC, top: 35.0
    • Theta JB: 19.3
    • Psi JT: 0.4
    • Psi JB: 19.3
    • Theta JC, bottom: 3.3

DS100DF410 is a 4-channel retimer which uses the same package as DS100BR410, but has different functionality. We have the following values characterized, including junction temperature.

    • Tj max: 105C
    • Theta JA-High K: 29.2
    • Theta JC, top: 10.2
    • Theta JB: 6.3
    • Psi JT: 0.1
    • Psi JB: 6.3
    • Theta JC, bottom: 2.0

Based on the values of these similar devices, I conservatively estimated that the max junction temperature of DS100BR410 should be ~100C.

I additionally recommend reviewing the following app note which covers thermal metrics: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/spra953d/spra953d.pdf

    Best,

    Lucas
