TRS3122E: Does TRS3122E contain buffers?

Hello,

I plan on using the TRS3122E to convert between CMOS logic UART signals to/from a microcontroller and a DN9 connector (RS-232 logic levels). I wanted to know if there are buffers contained within the TRS3122E part internally; otherwise, I may consider added external buffers for the CMOS UART signals on the microcontroller side. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

The DIN pins are read by high-impedance buffers (see the input leakage current specification), and the ROUT pins are driven by buffers with a drive strength of 2 mA (see V_OL/V_OH).

Hi Jack,

To clarify, every RS-232 device does have some level of buffering, but not discrete buffers since they are translating RS-232 signal levels. As Clemens mentions, DIN and ROUT have high-impedance buffers as can be seen by the diagram in the datasheet:
