TL852 the gain amplifier versus time

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TL852, TL851

hi:

could you tell me  why time depend on the gain of amplifier? if echo signal is very weak because of  reflection, in other word, the refraction signal is strong, and the  gain is not big enough if time is short, thus TL852 can not receive the echo signal ,should I how to   solve the question?  thanks!!

  • Hello Shoufen,

Sorry for the delay.  The part in question (TL852) is best supported by the /etc...Interface->Other Interface Forum.  I will move it there and someone will get in contact with you.

  • Hi Shoufen,

The sonar signal will be subject to some attenuation as it propagates out and reflects back.  Echoes that take a longer time to be received have traveled a greater distance, and so the amount of attenuation will be greater.  The TL851/2 increases the relative gain over time to compensate for this effect.  You are right that refractive surfaces will also cause a loss in signal amplitude.  The initial amplifier gain should be adjusted so that the signal levels in your application result in a level of ~230 mV at gain step 2 (G2IN).  This can be controlled by changing the feedback resistance used between G1IN and GADJ.
