LMH0341/LMH0051 LOOPTHRU_EN is shown as DNC pin?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH0051, LMH0341

For the CML application, I see that the LMH0051 diagram on page 22 of the datasheet shows the LOOPTHRU_EN pin as DNC. I'm trying to use a LMH0341 for this type of application and I was wondering if I should leave LOOPTHRU_EN as disconnected. At the moment I have it terminating through a 5k resistor. Should LOOPTHRU_EN be a DNC for all CML applications or is it a special case for LMH0051?

  • The LMH0051 and LMH0341 are two members of a family of chips that share a similar pinout.   The LMH0051 does not have the active loopthrough function, therefore the pin used on the LMH0341 and other members of the family which do have the function is not connected on the LMH0051.   If you are using the LMH0051, then you can leave this pin open, if using any other member of the family, then this pin will enable the loopthrough output.  If using the LMH0341, but you do not want to use the loopthrough output, then tie Loopthru_EN Low, and you will save some power.
