Hi,

Is it required to have the same number of input channels on a receiver as there is there is being transmitted for LVDS? For example, if I were using the DS90CF388A (which can receive up to 8 channels) but I had something like the FCB-EH3150 from Sony (which is transmitting only 5 LVDS channels), are they compatible? I see no reason why all of the reciever channels would have to be used.

If not, are there any options from TI that I am missing that would have 5 LVDS receiver channels?

Hi Nathaniel,

No. It is not necessary to connect all 8 LVDS channels on DS90CF388A, if only receiving 5 channels. You can leave the unused LVDS channel inputs OPEN.

The DS90CF388A would be the preferred option; as TI does not offer a single LVDS receiver with 5 channels.

Dac,

So if say the bottom three bits are left off from the DS90CF388A from the LVDS side, will that mean the bottom three bits on each serial output will be 0?

Hi Nathaniel,

When the LVDS inputs are left floating, the internal failsafe network will bias the 7 TTL outputs associated with that LVDS input to a logic high (assuming the LVDS clock active).
