TPD2E001 - N.C. pins independent? (routing IO1->NC5, IO2->NC2)

Hello,

The datasheet for TPD2E001 shows that it is acceptable to route an IO trace through an N.C. pin on the 5-pin package. However, for the 6-pin packages, this would connect one IO pin to one N.C. pin, and the other IO pin to the other N.C. pin.

Are the N.C. pins completely independent (so it is okay to route the signals as shown below)?
