SN65LVDS391 for mini-LVDS

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65LVDS391

Hello team,

I'm trying to determine if the SN65LVDS391 can be used as a driver for a mini-LVDS reciever. The specs for the mini-LVDS receiver are as follows:

The differential specs for our SN65LVDS391 are:

I'm trying to make sense out of these specs to make a confident decision:

The mini-LVDS receiver can detect a differential signal as low as 150mV (min. VID). Is it correct to say, for a worst case scenario, our SN65LVDS391's differential logic swing is min 247mV +/- 50mV, so it can be as low as 197mV, which is still enough for the mini-LVDS to detect the differential swing? Will the SN65LVDS391 be a good driver for this mini-LVDS receiver?

If not, what is our best offering for this application. Thanks.

  • Hi Fernando,

Based on the specs you have provided above I do not see any issue with using the SN65LVDS391 for a sub or mini LVDS application. The Vod will be higher than the typical Vod of sub LVDS as the SN65LVDS391 supports a typical value of 340mV of common mode voltage and typical for sub LVDS is 200mV. This is still well within the spec limits though.

Yes the worst case scenario for Vod on the SN65LVDS391 would be 247 +/-50mV which still meets the sub LVDS requirements.
