TLK106 LINK_ON signal

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK106

Our customer has a question about TLK106.
I'm posting the question for the customer:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We would like to use COL(Pin#29/COLLISION DETECT)signal as LINK-ON status signal
to connecting LINK_MII input of ET1100(ESC).

Is this possible on the TLK106 when turning on the power (default settings)?
If no, do we need any setting to registers?

COL output is asserted HIGH only when both transmit and receive media are
non-idle in half-duplex mode.
Therefore we consider the non-idle status as link-on status.

Thanks in advance.

Takishin

  • Hi Takishin,

Collision detect is only valid for half-duplex mode so if the customer's system is in full-duplex(most common) then collision signal will be unused.

Also, non-idle is not the same as link up or down.  A link may be up and idle, this is another common occurence.

A better method to determine link status is setting the LINK LED to mode 1 as described in section 3.8 of the TLK106 datasheet.  This will place a logic level on the LED_LINK pin corresponding to link up or down state.

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your reply.
    It helps a lot.
