DS90LV048A LVDS receiver - can it be damaged if the inputs are driven when no VCC is applied to the DS90LV048A

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90LV048A

One poster in this forum mentioned a while ago that the chip is hot swappable.  We see these chips damaged however when:

1.  The DS90LV048A is not powered and

2.  They inputs to the DS90LV048A is driven.

Would someone please comment on this?

Regards,

Ken

  • Hi Ken,

Hot swapping can be unpredictable when parts are completely unpowered with high impedance on VDD/GND.  In the hot swap event does the system have any provision to establish GND and Vsupply prior to making contact with the signal pins?

LVDS inputs can be particularly sensitive to this since they are DC coupled signals.
