SigCon Architect used with LMH1218 on user board

Hi Team,

I am trying to connect SigCon Architect GUI and LMH1218 on user board. However, I am failing to be connected. Is there any restriction using SigCon Architect with boards other than EVM ? Please give us your advice.

Here is my condition.
- LMH1218 SMBus slave address is set to 0x17 to 0x0A.
- SMbus SCL/SDA/GND is connected between the user board and USB2ANY.
- I have succeeded connecting with LMH1218EVM (slave address 0x0A)

Best Regards,

Kawai

  • Hi Kawai-san,

There should not be a limitation for using the GUI with EVMs only. However, we only ensure that SigCon Architect works with the EVMs, since we validate the software profile by testing on the respective EVMs.

In the past, as long as you have a USB2ANY device (with an MSP430 on-board) connected to the SDA/SCL lines of your test board, you should be able to establish communication. It is important that there is no other master on the SMBus line attempting to control the SMBus. Is it possible that there is something holding up the SMBus lines so that you are unable to use SigCon Architect to program the LMH1218?

Since you mentioned that you have no trouble talking to the LMH1218EVM, it leads me to believe that there is not an issue with your USB2ANY or SigCon Architect software and that it may be something related to the board you are testing on.

    Thanks,

    Michael
  • Hello Michael-san,

    Thank you for your advice.

We had been testing with the othe I2C master disconnected. Currently, we are using different I2C programmer through PC to write the register settings. I will try using SigCon Architect again later when I can make some time.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Kawai-san,

    Thanks for the follow-up!

When you try SigCon Architect again, it may be helpful to apply a probe on the SDA line just to see if there is some kind of strange loading or contention effect observed on the scope when using the USB2ANY compared to the I2C programmer you are currently using. It would be good for us to understand a little better what is causing the USB2ANY not to work for this particular case, as I have not run into this issue before.

    Regards,

    Michael
